HALETHORPE, Md. (WJZ)–The Maryland Food Bank helps put millions of meals on the tables of the needy.
As Mike Schuh reports, today they got a big boost from a house hold name.
A food bank has to have food, and a lot of it. It comes in by the truck load, all of it donated.
“That they’re helping provide will help us put meals on the table of millions of families across the state.”
Today, Smithfield Foods sent a semi with 15 tons of pork inside.
“We invite them in to help us support the Food Bank and help us drive sales and really promote shoppers within the community as an organization that wants to pay it back into the community.”
Over 200 times, Smithfield semis have backed up to the loading dock at food banks across the county.
“We actually came to Baltimore because of our relationship with shoppers they recognized the need here and they asked us to come.”
The food bank is also asking for your help.
“But in January and February we always face a shortage of volunteers. You can look around our warehouse today and you can see we are latterly bursting at the seams. So we need people form the general public to help us sort these donations and get them out to the people that need them most.”
